This insurance policy is suitable for those who require public liability insurance for running a dog rescue or who undertake dog warden activities. It is not suitable for those who are looking to insure the animals for vet fees.
There are two main types of insurance you need if you run an animal rescue or dog warden business. Both are included in this insurance policy.
Public liability – the main type of insurance you need if you are a dog rescue or dog warden is public liability. This will protect you from claims arising from the actions of you, an employee or one of the animals which has resulted in injury to a third-party or damage to their property due to your negligence.
The standard limit is £5 million, but it can be extended to £10 million for an additional premium.
Products liability – This will cover your business up to £5 million if injuries or damages arise as a result of a defective product that your business had supplied.
The standard limit is £5 million, but it can be extended to £10 million for an additional premium.
This policy covers dog rescue societies, rescue kennels, foster care and dog wardens.
Employers’ liability – if you have paid, voluntary or self-employed helpers working for your business, you are legally required to have this insurance, as this will provide cover should they suffer an injury while at work. The amount of cover provided is £10 million.
Personal accident – provides financial compensation should the insured party be injured while carrying out business activities. You can choose from benefits of up to £250 per week.. This section includes a lump sum compensation for accidental death, permanent loss of sight and/or limbs and total disablement.
Please note that this does not cover any pre-existing conditions or illness, or any injury sustained whilst commuting to or from work.
Professional indemnity – if you give professional advice for a separate fee and that advice results in either a physical or financial loss, professional indemnity will cover any resultant claims. The standard cover is up to a limit of £500,000.
If you don’t think you will need as much cover as the standard level, we can now also offer lower limits of professional indemnity cover for reduced premiums.
Equipment and property – you can add cover for business property and equipment to your policy. This can include most items used for your business ranging from small items such as bedding and feed to large items such as office equipment.
We are also able to arrange additional cover for commercial premises, business interruption and theft of money.
If you are running your business from your own home we recommend that you notify your home insurer. We can provide cover for your home insurance, please contact us if you would like us to provide a quotation.

“If you cut me open, you’ll see the word ‘insurance’ all the way through! Following a 25-year career at Aviva, I joined Cliverton in 2013 and have never looked back.
Cliverton is such a great place to work, we are like one big family, all with a similar focus on our love of animals and on providing the best service we can to our customers.
I love cats and dogs and have owned a wide variety of them over the years. I currently own a completely bonkers Cocker Spaniel called Buddy.”
