GET A QUOTECALL 01328 857921As a livery yard owner, you’re responsible for the care of the cherished horses boarded on your property. While you probably deliver the job with plenty of passion, it doesn’t come without risk and proper insurance is a critical investment.
From a horse which is injured while under your care to possible claims from visitors who are injured on your premises, liability is a very real risk. Fire or storm damage might also mean you are unable to operate your yard until repairs are made.
With over 50 years’ experience in the industry and expertise in insuring equine businesses, we speak your language. We’ll provide the right specialist cover at the right price – and be there to handhold should the worst happen and you need to claim.
This insurance policy is suitable for yard owners' private premises as well as those providing services such as livery yards (grass, DIY, part or full-livery service).
There are two main types of insurance you need if you operate a livery yard business. Both are included in this insurance policy.
Public liability – designed to protect you against liability claims for injury caused to third parties or damage to their property as a result of your negligence. For instance, if a horse in your care gets spooked, runs off and injures a member of the public.
Cover limits available include £2 million, £5 million and £10 million.
Products liability – this covers your business if injuries or damages arise as a result of a defective product that your business had supplied, such as hay, bedding or feed.
Public liability for yard owners providing services such as livery yards (grass, DIY, part or full-livery service). We can also cater for other types of yard, including private stables, training establishments, competition yards and studs.
Employers’ liability – if you have paid, voluntary or self-employed helpers working for your business, you are legally required to have this insurance as this will provide cover should they be injured while at work.
Care, custody and control – Provides cover for your legal liability in the event of injury, illness or death of the horses under your care, custody and control.
Different levels of cover are available. Please contact us for more information.
Shows/events – cover can be provided for liabilities arising from any shows or events held at your establishment.
Hire of facilities – should you hire out your establishments facilities, we can cover your public liability for this.
Onsite riding instruction – if you offer instruction with your clients horses or on your own horses (subject to licencing requirements), we can offer you cover.
Equipment and property damage – we can cover your businesses property and equipment, from small items to large, including saddlery and tack.
We are also able to arrange cover for commercial premises, business interruption, theft of money and your home. If you are running your business from your own home, we recommend that you notify your home insurer.
Legal expenses - this is designed to protect you from unexpected legal costs arising from business risks. Find out more.

“I joined Cliverton 10 years ago, I never thought I would enjoy a job as much as I do here after leaving a career in horses.
Joining the team as receptionist I’ve seen a large amount of change over the years. But one thing that has remained at the heart is our team. We are a very close-knit team who strive to do our best for our customers every day. We all know insurance is not something in life people enjoy - but I hope our team helps.
Outside of work, my interests still lie with horses and I try and get to the beach as much as I can with my boy Teddy.
At home I am slave to my two cats Sammy and Aurora who very kindly let me live with them. I am very lucky to live in the beautiful Norfolk countryside which I enjoy exploring with family and friends.”
