Riding schools may face liability claims from students, visitors or others who may be injured while on the premises or during a riding lesson. Such claims could result from accidents involving horses, falls or other incidents such as trampling or kicking.
This riding school insurance policy is suitable for clients who are looking to cover their public liability for running licensed riding schools. This is not suitable for those looking to run pony parties.
There are two main types of insurance you need if you run a riding school. Both are included in this riding school insurance policy.
Public liability – this public liability cover will protect you from any legal liability which may arise from the actions of you or an employee resulting in injury to a third party or damage to their property. We can offer cover up to a limit of £5 million but this can be extended to £10 million for an additional premium.
Products liability – will cover your legal liability for injury, loss or damage caused by products used by you for your client. This could include hay, bedding or feed which must be supplied in the manufacturer’s own packaging.
Licensed riding schools – where you are licensed by your local authority and operate under the Riding Establishments Act to provide lessons to your clients on your horses or those on a working livery.
We can also provide cover for tuition given in an enclosed arena in either small groups or on a 1-2-1 basis.
We can offer cover for those who offer a small amount of hacking - please contact us for more details.
Liveries
Employers’ liability – If you have either paid, voluntary or self-employed helpers working under your instruction it is a legal requirement to have employers’ liability cover. This provides cover for your legal liability towards your employees should they sustain an injury whilst working for you in connection with your business.
Care, custody and control – Provides cover for your legal liability in the event of injury or death of the horses under your care, custody and control.
Different levels of cover are available. Please contact us for more information.
Liveries – we can provide cover for DIY, part and full liveries kept at your establishment.
Shows/events/pony camps and riding holidays – cover can be provided for liabilities arising from any shows or events held at your establishment. Accommodation cover can also be provided should you offer camps or holidays.
Equipment and property – we can cover your organisation’s property and equipment, from small items (such as leads and collars) to large (such as office equipment). We are also able to arrange cover for commercial premises, business interruption, theft of money and your home. If you also need cover for equipment or property damage, please contact us. If you are running your business from your own home, we recommend that you notify your home insurer.
